چکیده

In this work, we demonstrate preliminary results for a hermetically sealed, metal-packaged fibre Bragg grating strain sensor for monitoring existing concrete wind turbine foundations. As the sensor is bolted to the sub-surface of the concrete, it is suitable for mounting onto uneven, wet and degraded surfaces, which may be found in buried foundations. The sensor was able to provide reliable measurements of concrete beam strain during cyclic threeand fourpoint bend tests. The strain sensitivity of the prototype sensor is currently 10 % of that of commercial, epoxied fibre strain sensors.

Field Demonstration of Real-Time Wind Turbine Foundation Strain Monitoring

Onshore wind turbine foundations are generally over-engineered as their internal stress states are challenging to directly monitor during operation. While there are industry drivers to shift towards more economical foundation designs, making this transition safely will require new monitoring techniques, so that the uncertainties around structural health can be reduced. This paper presents the i...

Research on Wind Turbine Blade Monitoring Based on FBG Strain Sensors

As an clean renewable energy source wind energy is highly regarded by various countries in the world. Wind turbine blade is one of the most important components in wind turbine. It is the key component for receiving wind energy. As turbine size steps up and the size of modern turbine blade increases, condition monitoring and maintenance of blades become more important. Strain detection is one o...

Crack Monitoring of Operational Wind Turbine Foundations

The degradation of onshore, reinforced-concrete wind turbine foundations is usually assessed via above-ground inspections, or through lengthy excavation campaigns that suspend wind power generation. Foundation cracks can and do occur below ground level, and while sustained measurements of crack behaviour could be used to quantify the risk of water ingress and reinforcement corrosion, these crac...

An Improved Metal-Packaged Strain Sensor Based on A Regenerated Fiber Bragg Grating in Hydrogen-Loaded Boron–Germanium Co-Doped Photosensitive Fiber for High-Temperature Applications

Local strain measurements are considered as an effective method for structural health monitoring of high-temperature components, which require accurate, reliable and durable sensors. To develop strain sensors that can be used in higher temperature environments, an improved metal-packaged strain sensor based on a regenerated fiber Bragg grating (RFBG) fabricated in hydrogen (H₂)-loaded boron-ger...

Field Deployable Fiber Bragg Grating Strain Patch for Long-Term Stable Health Monitoring Applications

A fiber Bragg grating (FBG) strain patch specially adapted for long-term and high-strain applications has been developed and characterized. The design concept for the patch is based on a glass-fiber reinforced plastic (gfrp) carrier material. The developed concept for the FBG integration into the carrier material was derived from reliable integration procedure of FBG sensors into composite stru...
